Day 1 We pick you up early in the morning from your hotel in Bucharest or from the Otopeni Henry Coanda International Airport.
Depending on the pick-up point and timing we can see two or more of:
» Brasov city center and the Black church, the town’s main gothic cathedral.
» Rasnov Fort – a fascinating Saxon hilltop fort designed to protect the peasants community against the Tatar and Ottoman invasions.
» Bran Castle – the famous castle connected with Vlad Tepes “The Impaler”, and “Dracula”, former border tax collecting check point.
» Peles Castle – the summer residence of the Romanian kings, a must visit for any foreign traveler to Romania.
In the afternoon we’ll do a loop jeep trip in the hills around Bran with an optional hike in the Canyon of Zarnesti, trying to discover the pastoral way of life of the Romanian sheppard. The stunning views of Piatra Craiului and Bucegi mountains and the “spread” traditional villages stay with us along our journey.
We’ll sleep in Bran – Moeciu area after a dinner in a Romanian traditional restaurant.
Day 2 We leave the Dracula Castle behind for a full off-road day in the mountains. We’ll have a spectacular route on top of the mountains with stunning views over Bucegi, Piatra Craiului, Iezer-Papusa and Fagaras. Well also drive along an artificial lake and gorges before reaching an altitude of more than 2000m. Depending on timing, we’ll have the opportunity to visit one of the oldest monasteries of Romania, built by the monks over 1000 years ago in a cave. On this day picnic lunch is compulsory before we arrive near the Vidraru reservoir at our hotel.
Day 3 Following the Transfagarasan asphalt road we drive around the Vidraru lake and we cross the Fagaras Mountains ridge to Transylvania. We continue deep into the Saxon land driving on and off road to discover the Saxon civilization of Transylvania. Saxon immigrants were settled by Hungarian kings starting from the 13th century to help them control the conquered Romanian population and to protect the Transylvanian border against the Tatar invasions from East and South. During the centuries the Saxons succeeded in creating an original civilization, strongly influenced by the Romanian traditional way of life. We visit one of the many Saxon fortified churches which represents a unique military architecture style in Europe. We end the day in Sighisoara.
Day 4 We take a brake from off-road driving to enjoy a tour of the Sighisoara fortress and, after a short drive, we have the option to relax taking a bath in the thermal salty waters of Bazna Spa resort. The Bazna waters have magical effects for rheumatic diseases and relax your mind and spirit. After a traditional lunch with bio products at a local farm we continue deep into the Saxon land driving on and off road to discover the Saxon civilization of Transylvania. We enjoy the night at Sibiu, one of the seven Saxon cities, eating in one of the traditional restaurants or drinking coffee on the pedestrian main street.
Day 5 For the last day we drive back along the river Olt Valley in order to spend the afternoon in Bucharest. Bucharest offers an unique attraction, the Parliament house, the second largest building in the world, built entirely with Romanian raw materials and labor in the last years of communism. We end the day at your hotel or at the airport.
